The first hybrid bus in Bulgaria runs in the streets of Sofia. The municipality will test it for ten days and then will decide whether to buy 20 more buses. The hybrid will be tested by both transport experts and public transport drivers, who will decide whether such vehicles are suitable to be used in the capital city. The bus will run on the route of the trams on “Graf Ignatiev” Street.

Yordanka Fandakova, mayor of Sofia: “It will operate in the ideal center of the city and this is a good opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the technology”.
The bus can carry around 100 passengers. The fuel consumption of the hybrid is twice as low as a normal diesel bus, and its price is 30% more, making it about 350,000 leva.
By the end of the year, the municipality will have 20 electric buses and a further procurement for 15 more is expected. Thus, 60% of the public transport fleet in the capital will be modernized, and next year it is expected that the average age of the buses to be 6-7 years.
