The sailors from the ship “Vera Su”, which ran aground near Bulgaria’s coatstal area of Kamen Briag, have been evacuated.
Seven sailors were brought ashore by means of a rescue facility from a net from the rock to the ship. The last sailor to disembark was accompanied by cheers from the rescue team.
The operation to evacuate the sailors began at 3:40 p.m. on October 6. Their baggage was taken off first. The operation lasted an hour and a half.
The weather in the area is very bad. The sea was very rough and waves were breaking over the ship onto the decks and the sailors.
The crew is in good health and will now be quarantined in a hotel in Bulgaria’s Black Sea coastal town Kavarna.
Three barges from Italy are expected to arrive tonight. The unloading of the cargo from the stranded ship will begin when the weather is calm. To complete the unloading, the barges will have to make several trips.
Representatives of the salvage company, which deals with the rescue activities on the ship, were on site today. They did not comment on details, but stressed that the situation remains complicated.
