The special coin issued to commemorate Bulgaria’s EU presidency has sold out. It was released for sale on 2nd of January and sold out within 2 days and a few hours. Long queues formed in front of Bulgarian National Bank. Hundreds of people lined up since early hours of the morning waiting for their turn to buy the limited edition coin.
The commemorative coin of 10 leva is made of pure silver, with partial gold plating. Its circulation is limited - only 3,000 pieces. That is why everyone could buy only one. The coin was sold at the BNB cash desks in Sofia, Bourgas, Varna, Pleven and Plovdiv for a price of 66 BGN.
In addition, the central bank BNB also issued a new edition of BGN 2 coin to the circulation, with a total of 500,000 pieces. It carries the logo of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The BNB stressed that other issuаnces of BGN 2 coin also remain legal tender.
The Ministry
for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU has also purchased coins –
50,000 from the circulation coins and 1,000 pieces from commemorative coins.
They will be used as gifts to the participants in the vents of the Council of the EU
in Bulgaria.
