The three ports in Bourgas are closed due to high winds

Code yellow weather alert was issued on 30 December for 8 districts in Bulgaria because of strong winds. The wind speed is expected to reach 25 metres per second. According to the forecast, the dangerous weather will affect the whole Eastern and parts of Southern Bulgaria. There is a risk of black ice particularly at higher altitudes.

The three ports in the coastal city of Bourgas are closed due to the strong winds. Six ships are waiting off shore. There is a possibility of rough seas.

All roads in the country are passable. There are no reports of fallen trees and power outages.

In the coastal city of Varna, the high wind knocked down some of the Christmas decorations in the city centre. Police said this morning a signal was filed for fallen barriers at a new construction site. The port of Varna is open.

Broken tree branches and fallen roof tiles were reported in Sliven. There are no reports of more serious damage. Wind gusts reach 18 metres per second. Snow drifts formed in places in the mountainous part of Sliven municipality.
