Three Bulgarian teachers have been nominated to participate in the Global Teacher Prize. The nominations were at the initiative of Bulgaria’s Minister of Education, Meglena Kuneva and aimed at giving a chance to outstanding Bulgarian teachers to show their contribution as educators and participate in the contest together with teachers from all over the world.
The Global Teacher Prize is a US $1 million award presented annually to an exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to their profession.
The Global Teacher Prize is awarded by the Varkey Foundation under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Emir of Dubai.
One of the Bulgarian nominations is Pepa Nikolova from the city of Gabrovo, Central Bulgaria. She has been a teacher in Bulgarian language and literature for 23 years at Raicho Karolev School in Gabrovo. Over the years Nikolova received many awards - the award "Neophyte Rilski" for years of creative work, the prize for the training of students with significant results, but the greatest recognition is the current nomination.
The other nominee is Emiliyan Kadiiski, an IT teacher in Nikola Vaptsarov school in the city of Vratsa, North-West Bulgaria. He is the author of the school’s computer programming and computer networks. His students have achievements at national Olympiads in Information Technologies.
The third candidate for the award is Irena Trencheva. She is an English language teacher at St. Cyril and Methodius school in the town of Pernik, near Sofia. Irena Trencheva is a volunteer at a children’s foundation in the town of Trun, supporting children in risk, who deserve happy, healthy and productive life path.
