New increase in prices of used cars in Bulgaria. Due to the increasing difficulty of importing cars from abroad, most of the car dealerships are raising prices. The customers are mostly from abroad.
Low fuel consumption, fewer emissions and a price ceiling of up to BGN 10 000. These are among the main demands of most of the customers who visit the car dealerships in Dupnitsa. Among them is Ognyan Georgiev, who got a used car about a week ago.
"I was looking for a car which is more economical, because with these fuel prices it is already difficult and pricey. And I was looking to be cheap to maintain, with cheap parts," he says.
But even customers like Ognian are getting fewer, dealers report. They admit they are saving their business thanks to the interest of customers from Greece.
"The market is tough, prices are high, clientele average. There are new imports, but it is weak, it is difficult. The Bulgarian clientele is weaker - they are looking for cheaper cars, between 8,000 and 15,000 BGN, not to burn much," explained Diego Chalev, a car dealer.
The problem of importing used cars from Western Europe will continue to worsen, dealers say. Among the main reasons for this are the environmental policies of countries such as Italy, Germany, France and Switzerland, where governments are scrapping old cars and giving their owners money for new ones.
