The coalition "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" will not support the first mandate for forming a government of GERB - UDF, with candidate for Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel. They are starting talks with all parliamentary parties to seek support for the second mandate.
The decision of the second largest political group in Parliament was taken after successive meetings today, May 16, - first at a Coalition Council of the five leaders - Kiril Petkov, Assen Vassilev, Hristo Ivanov, Atanas Atanasov and Vladislav Panev.
This was followed by discussions in the National Council of "We Continue the Change" and then a meeting with the parliamentary group of the coalition. The decision was announced this evening by Kiril Petkov and Hristo Ivanov.
"We will not support the first mandate. We start working for the second mandate, which we see as the only alternative for Bulgaria not to go to a sixth election," said Kiril Petkov, co-chair of “We Continue the Change”.
"We are starting consultations with all political forces in Parliament on their readiness to support specific changes in the Constitution. We believe that the situation of the past days confirms our long-term position that the Bulgarian political and institutional system cannot be normalised without a deep and ambitious change in the Constitution, in terms of the SJC and in terms of the Prosecutor’s Office. It is evident that everything else is a short circuit", said Hristo Ivanov, co-chairman of DB.
