'MRF-New Beginning' Leader Peevski: We Will Not Allow History to Be Rewritten

We will not allow history to be changed. This is what the leader of "DPS - New Beginning" Delyan Peevski told journalists, whom he invited to his office in the National Assembly to see the "Museum of the Assembly".

“We will not allow history to be rewritten,” Delyan Peevski, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning, told journalists on December 17 whom he invited to his office in the National Assembly to view what he called the “Museum of the Assemblage.”

The "assemblage" is a term often used to refer informally to the power-sharing cooperation between the two main political blocs in the Bulgarian government from June 2023 to March 2024: "We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB) and GERB-UDF. The term highlighted the nature of the arrangement as a potentially reluctant or temporary gathering of different political entities, rather than a traditional, cohesive coalition government. The "assemblage" fell apart before the agreed rotation of governance seats.

“Good afternoon, colleagues, welcome to the "Museum of the Assemblage" - the assemblage thatdid not exist according to them,” he announced as he greeted reporters and camera crews.

The room displayed photographs from the plenary chamber taken during the adoption of the amendments to the Constitution, images from Peevski’s briefings with representatives of WCC-DB, mock-ups bearing the faces of WCC–DB leaders, and more. Audio recordings of statements by WCC–DB representatives were also played, alongside what Peevski described as “numerous text messages” exchanged between members of the two political forces.

The MRF – New Beginning leader also presented draft legislation related to Bulgaria, stressing that, unlike WCC–DB, his party does not disown its past initiatives.

“MRF did many very good things within the assemblage. We governed together with GERB and WCC–DB. Every day these people were in my office and in Mr. Borisov’s (GERB leader Boyko Borissov) office,” Peevski said. “The truth is that they have forgotten everything,” he added.

“What is happening now goes beyond all limits — rewriting history to claim that we had nothing to do with one another, that we did not govern together,” he said.

Peevski insisted that WCC–DB voters should know that “for nine months these people were together with MRF every single day”. He added that political disputes should be resolved on the political field, “not on the terrain of fights, slaps and fists”, and assured that his party would take a constructive approach.
