“We discussed the end of March as a possible timeframe for holding early parliamentary elections,” said Kostadin Kostadinov.

“The position of Vazrazhdane is clear and categorical: this Parliament is exhausted and illegitimate, and now also morally devalued. The sooner we go through the procedure with the mandates, their return and the scheduling of elections, the better for our country. We stressed to the President our desire for Bulgaria to preserve the Bulgarian lev,” said Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov after his meeting with President Rumen Radev on December 16.

According to Kostadinov, Bulgaria is set to be forced unlawfully into the eurozone without a regular government and without a duly adopted budget.

“We are against an extension budget,” he added, stressing that a new budget should be proposed with no debt at all.

“I do not see a suitable caretaker prime minister from the so-called ‘house book’ (the list of possible candidates for caretaker prime minister). We discussed the end of March as a possible timeframe for convening early parliamentary elections — no specific date was discussed. After that, in early April, we have Palm Sunday and Easter. We cannot bring these two major holidays into an election campaign, nor can we prolong this process for too long. We want quick elections,” Kostadinov said.

President Radev asked Vazrazhdane whether the Electoral Code needs to be amended.

“Whatever changes are made to the Electoral Code — whether there are amendments or not — there is something that does not depend on the Electoral Code, and that is voter turnout,” Kostadinov said.

Under recent constitutional amendments, the President must select a potential caretaker Prime Minister from a specific list of senior state officials. The list of potential candidates includes:
The Speaker of the National Assembly.
The Governor or Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank.
The Chairman or Deputy Chairman of the Audit Chamber (Dimitar Glavchev is the current Chairman).
The Ombudsman or Deputy Ombudsman
