47 million BGN will Be Invested to Enhance Ecosystems of Natura 2000

In 2018, BGN 47 million will be invested to improve the condition of the species and ecosystems in the Natura 2000 network, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Environment and Water said on 22^nd of May on the occasion of the European Day of Natura 2000 and the International Day of Biodiversity.

The protected areas of the network are 34.4% of the area of Bulgaria.

In the process of proclaiming these places, Bulgaria has been twice sentenced by the European Commission Court for the incompleteness of the protected areas.

At the beginning of 2016 Bulgaria was sentenced for building wind farms and other projects in Kaliakra Protected Area and at the end of April this year for failing to classify the most suitable territories in number and size for the conservation of rare bird species in the Rila Mountains.

For the areas already adopted, not all orders have been issued on how to manage them.
