Speaking in a news briefing in Bulgaria’s second largest city of Plovdiv late in the evening after the local elections runoff on November 5, GERB leader, Boyko Borissov, said that "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" and the nationalist "Vazrazhdane" party have coalesced against GERB candidates in the local elections and hinted that the "assemblage" in the government might not last long.
"We have twice as many votes and municipal councillors as We Continue the Change- Democratic Bulgaria, we are the third political force in these elections. We now have a new assemblage - these are the parties that support Russia and Putin - firstly We Continue the Change and the Democratic Bulgaria, secondly Vazrazhdane."
“There is a wonderful new coalition now: WCC-DB and Vazrazhdane. And I will tell all our Western partners about it,” said Borissov.
According to Borissov, WCC-DB and "Vazrazhdane" everywhere played against GERB, and in his native town of Bankya they "paid money to beat him" (in Bankya, the mayoral race in the runoff was between GERB candidate Rangel Markov and Anton Brankov of "Vazrazhdane" - ed.n.) and “Petkov (WCC co-leader) wants to talk about tax laws and what not,” Borissov said. “That is hypocrisy! That's why the turnout is so low, because people can't stand hypocrisy anymore. Either a government or a proper coalition is made or charlatan assemblages."
Asked if this meant new general elections, he replied:
"If they (WCC) have been playing with “Vazrazhdane”, there is no point in having such an assemblage. The colleagues of the MRF should choose."
He also said that the state is run by “a vile relationship at the moment called assemblage”. A government should be made, properly, he said and added that this government arrangement (with We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria is “an agony”. Asked by a reporter how long it may last, he said it may last very long.
