British experts will assist Bulgaria in the implementation of the judicial reform, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Justice said after a meeting between Bulgaria’s Minister of Justice, Ekaterina Zaharieva, and her British counterpart, Michael Gove in London on 4th of February.
The actions that the Bulgarian government will take to address the recommendations from the European Commission’s report on Bulgaria’s performance under Co-operation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) were the focus of the talks between Zaharieva and Gove.
In December 2015, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov made a proposal that technical assistance and external experts from EU should help Bulgaria with the judicial reform.
Zaharieva said the United Kingdom would provide experts to assist with the reforms in the Prosecutor’s Office and the Supreme Judicial Council.
She added that many countries were in process of reforms in the judicial system, including the UK in terms of speed of proceedings.
