broadcast regulator opens procedure election new director general bulgarian national television

The Council for Electronic Media has decided on the procedure and the terms for the election of a new Director General of the public service broadcaster, Bulgarian National Television (BNT).

The three-year term of office of the current BNT Director General, Emil Koshlukov, expires on 10 July, 2022.

The procedure for the selection of the new Director General takes approximately 2 months. Applications of candidates can be submitted from today, May 5, until May 27. The hearing of the admitted candidates will be held on June 27 and the election is on June 29.

These terms were voted in the CEM with 4 votes in favour. Rosita Elenova abstained.

Her argumentse were:

"I don't mind, the timing is good. The timing is responsibly presented - at this point in today's meeting. But there will be three new CEM members very soon. What's the problem with waiting for 24 hours, giving 72 hours to these new CEM members who are going to have this responsibility,” she said.

The term of office of there CEM members, including Rosita Elenova, has expired, but they will remain in place until Parliament decides on the two nominations from the parliamentary quota to replace them. The MPs have to choose two names from a total of 3 candidates - Simona Veleva, nominated by "We Continue the Change", Prolet Velkova, nominated by "Democratic Bulgaria" and Todor Belenski, nominated by "Vazrazhdane".
