Border checkpoint Kulata - Promachon was closed for passage of lorries at 17:00 on 5th of February. Only cars and buses are allowed through. The queue of vehicles stretches to 10 km.
Ilinden - Exochi border checkpoint was closed for all vehicles. It is expected to be opened about 20:30 for cars and buses, the district authorities in Blagoevgrad said.
Earlier today, Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications, Ivailo Moskovski, met with the Deputy Regional Governor of Serres in Greece, Ioannis Moisiadis, and requested food and water to be provided for the Bulgarian drivers on Greek territory, as it had been done by the Bulgarian authorities across the border. He also asked for specific timetable with the blockades and windows in which vehicles would be allowed through the border, so that Bulgarian hauliers could plan their trips.
Speaking with the protesting Greek farmers, Moskovski said that he respected their right to freely express their opinion and press their demands, but noted that this should not block the work of other people and should not cause losses for the business in Bulgaria.
The Greek farmers responded that the decisions on the periods of closures and openings of the border crossings were made on day-to-day basis.
The regional authorities of Serres promised that food and water will be provided for the drivers waiting on Greek territory as well as information to the Bulgarian authorities regarding the schedule of blockades and possibilities for passage.
