Bulgaria’s Parliament will debate the no-confidence motion against the government of Prime Minister, Kiril Petkov, in an extraordinary sitting on Tuesday, June 21. The sitting will start at 11.00 and has been convened by the Speaker Miroslav Ivanov, the National Assembly said on June 17.

The agenda includes a draft resolution on a vote of no confidence in the Council of Ministers with Kiril Petkov as Prime Minister. The draft resolution is submitted by Dessislava Atanasova and a group of MPs.

According to the rules, the voting should take place no earlier than 24 hours after the end of the debate.

The no-confidence motion against the government was tabled by the opposition GERB-UDF on Wednesday on the grounds that it had failed in financial policy. It was supported by the "There is Such a People", Movement for Rights and Freedoms and "Vazrazhdane".

121 votes out of 240 are needed for a no-confidence motion to pass. The estimates show that the vote may pass, but the former partner in the coalition government, “There is Such a People” (TISP) continue to lose MPs. Kiril Simeonov left the party today. This brings the total number of TISP MPs who have split from the parliamentary group to 6.

At the moment, 59 MPs from GERB-UDF, 34 from MRF, 19 from TISP and 13 from “Vazrazhdane” would likely vote to support the no-confidence motion - a total of 125 votes. The "no" votes are currently 67 MPs from “We Continue the Change” , 26 MPs from BSP, 16 MPs from “Democratic Bulgaria” and 6 independents - a total of 115 votes.
