Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev on 4th of May welcomed his counterparts from Romania and Austria in the city of Rousse, on the right bank of the Danube - Klaus Iohannis and Alexander van der Bellen. During their meeting on the topic "The Future of United Europe", the three presidents will discuss key topics from the European agenda, which are among the Bulgarian priorities of the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The Head of State, Rumen Radev, welcomed his counterparts Alexander van der Bellen and Klaus Iohannis in the Batenberg palace. After the photo, the three presidents went to for Prince Alexander I Hall for an informal meeting.

The visit of the three presidents in Rousse is an expression of the political will of Bulgaria, Austria and Romania, which will consequtively hold the presidency of the Council of the EU, to ensure continuity on key positions. And they relate to the European perspective for the Western Balkans, the future of cohesion policy, energy and transport connectivity in the region.

Rousse was chosen to host the meeting because one of the main topics to be discussed by the presidents is the development of the Danube region, which can significantly boost economic growth in the EU. For this purpose, however, the Danube Strategy should be revived again.

Later in the University in Rousse, Rumen Radev, Klaus Johanhis and Alexander van der Bellen will participate in a conference on "Sustainable Development of the Danube Region." MEPs, lecturers and students will present their views on the connectivity between the countries through which the river runs. The Head of State Rumen Radev will also talk with mayors from the Danube region.Official statements of the three presidents are expected in the afternoon.
