Bulgaria continues to fall in the World Press Freedom Index. It is ranked 111th in the world in 2018, says the annual report by the international NGO Reporters without Borders.
It states that Bulgaria is in lower position than any other EU member state. Although Bulgaria currently holds the EU presidency, it is at the lowest position in the index from all countries in the Western Balkans, some of which are candidates for EU membership. Corruption and collision between media, politicians and oligarchs is widespread.
The ranking includes 180 countries. Norway is ranked first in the world for press freedom, followed by Holland and Finland. North Korea is ranked last in the World Press Freedom Index.
