Bulgaria Ranks Among EU’s Top Five at Leading Global AI Conferences

Bulgaria has ranked among Europe’s leading countries for scientific representation at ECCV 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious conferences in the fields of computer vision and artificial intelligence.

With 10 research papers accepted into the main programme, INSAIT, the institute at Sofia University “St Kliment Ohridski”, ranks fifth among EU research institutions by the number of papers presented.

Ahead of INSAIT in the European ranking are only leading research centres such as the Technical University of Munich, ETH Zurich, the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, Imperial College London and the Max Planck institutes.

By this measure, the Bulgarian institute has outperformed established universities and research centres including EPFL, as well as the universities of Bonn, Edinburgh and Copenhagen, École Polytechnique and the Sorbonne. It also ranks ahead of research teams from companies including Bosch, Siemens, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Ericsson and Volkswagen.

ECCV is held every two years and is one of the world’s leading forums for computer vision. This year’s edition took place from 8 to 13 September in Malmö, Sweden, bringing together thousands of representatives from academia and industry.
