Bulgaria reports sharp increase in Covid-19 infections, total now stands at 800

The total confirmed cases of coronavirus in Bulgaria has reached a record high 800 on April 16, the daily update by the national task force said.

227 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, 37 of which are in intensive care.

48 medical specialists have tested positive for the virus.

The cases in the districts affected by the coronavirus across the country are as follows: Blagoevgrad – 20; Bourgas – 27; Varna - 24; Veliko Turnovo – 10; Vidin – 4; Vratsa – 2; Gabrovo – 3; Dobrich – 13; Kardzhali – 13; Kyustendil – 21; Lovech – 2; Montana – 18; Pazardzhik – 15; Pernik – 8; Pleven – 9; Plovdiv – 37; Rousse - 6; Silistra - 2; Sliven – 14; Smolyan – 28; Sofia – 486; Stara Zagora – 24; Haskovo – 9; Shumen – 4; Yambol – 1.

The deaths are also increasing. 38 Covid-19 patients have died, including a 64 year old man today in Pirogov emergency hospital. He had high blood pressure as an underlying disease. He was on ventilation, but later, due to septic shock and multiple organ failure, he had to be dialysed.
