Bulgaria and Switzerland will soon sign a treaty to combat illegal import of cultural assets from the two countries - a document that has been prepared for a long time. This became clear after a meeting of Bulgaria’s Vice President Iliyana Yotova and the President of Switzerland Alain Berset on 26th of March in Bern.
Another important topic will be discussed on Wednesday - the continuation of the Bulgarian-Swiss co-operation programme related to the financing of specific projects in the fields of security, environment, human resources and dual education in Bulgaria. President Berset assured that Switzerland is willing to continue this programme after 2019.
The Swiss President welcomed the country's decision to declare the European perspective of the Western Balkans as a priority. It became clear that Switzerland pays serious attention to the countries of the former Yugoslavia and Albania. About half a million people from these countries are also Swiss citizens.
Alain Berseт expressed interest in the Turkey-EU meeting in Varna and in particular on migration issues.
Yotova presented the book "About Bulgaria" to the President. The book is by a Swiss teacher and public figure, Louis Ayer, published in 1913. It is assumed that Ayer is the founder of the sport movement in Bulgaria. He died on the front during the Second World War as a Bulgarian officer. Although Switzerland is not a member of the EU, the Bulgarian embassy organises many events to present the priorities to the Bulgarian Presidency.
A discussion will also be held in June on the topic of the Western Balkans.
