Bulgarian border police detained 18 illegal migrants and the 5 drivers transporting them

In the early hours on October 21, around 4:00 a.m., a border police team from Bourgas noticed a group of five illegal migrants getting in a passenger car with a Turkish registration in the area of Marinka village (Southeast Bulgaria). During the check, the police officers established that the driver was a Turkish citizen and the migrants did not possess identification documents and claimed to be Syrians.

Meanwhile, another border police team from Bourgas detained a 28 years old woman from Sofia in the shooting range area of the Marinka village. In her personal car, she was transporting two illegal migrants, who claimed to be from Afghanistan.

Half an hour later, in the same area, the border police officers detained a 34-year-old man from the village of Krichim, who has a criminal record. He was smuggling three foreigners without documents, identifying themselves as Syrians. Pre-trial proceedings were initiated for for both cases, based on the Bourgas border police reports.

Border police officers from Sredets detained 8 illegal migrants and two drivers. On October 19, 2021, around 22:00, a border police unit pulled over two passenger cars in the area of Dyulevo village (Southeast Bulgaria). The border police officers found four illegal migrants without identification papers in the first car, a Volkswagen driven by a 34-year-old woman from the vilage of Gulubovo. In a Fiat car, driven by a 63-year-old man from Sofia, four more undocumented migrants were found. The foreigners declared they were Afghans. The 8 illegal migrants and their drivers were detained and pre-trial proceedings were opened based on the Sredets border police reports.

In the past 24 hours, the border police have prevented 253 attempts for illegal crossing of the Bulgarian national border, 213 at the Bulgarian-Turkish border and 40 attempts at the border with Greece.
