Bulgaria is among the NATO members that are expected to meet the alliance’s objective of defence spending reaching 2% of GDP by 2024, Bulgaria’s Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov said on 15th of February in Brussels, where he took part in a meeting of NATO ministers of defence.
The Bulgarian Minister also had a bilateral meeting with US Secretary of Defece James Mattis. He briefed him on the plans for modernization of the Bulgarian army and announced that Bulgaria will participate in a NATO training mission in Iraq.
Karakachanov reminded that on January 3, the Bulgarian government adopted the national plan to increase defence spending.
