The tourists in the mountains are advised to look at avalanche warning signs as they go because the high risk of avalanches remains in place for the mountains of Stara Planina, Pirin, Rila and Vitosha.
Mountain Rescuers advise tourists to keep up-to-date on weather conditions, Kamen Yakimov from Mountain Rescue Service commented in BNT breakfast programme on 6th of March.
"We have issued and continue to issue warnings for significant degree of avalanche danger, using the international five-tier system for identifying the risk," Kamen Yakimov said. According to the statistics, most avalanche incidents happen in second and third degree. Avalanche danger is currently is high as moisture in the snow cover increases as a result of a significant rise in temperatures and in the rain altitude limit, expected to rise to 2,000 m, he explained.
