On 11th of November, the two MPs, the leader of the nationalist “Ataka” party, Volen Siderov and his deputy Desislav Chukolov gave up their immunity from prosecution. Penal proceedings have been initiated against the two MPs after the incident with their intrusion on students at the National Academy of Film and Theatre Arts in Sofia on 25th of October.
Bulgaria’s Parliament voted on 11th of November to agree to the detention of the two MPs.
The next step is the Parliament to send Siderov’s and Chukolov’s declarations (on renouncing their immunity) to the prosecutor’s office, as well as the decision, through which the Parliament permits their arrest.
According to the procedure, Sofia City Prosecutor’s office will then summon the two MPs within 3 days in order to press charges. After that Siderov and Chukolov will be interviewed in the capacity of defendants and the supervising prosecutor would decide on the measures.
