Speaking after the meeting with Slovak counterpart Andrej Kiska on 19th of June, Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev said that the open-door policy is harmful for both Europe and the countries from which migrants come and border security needs to be strengthened without compromise.
The President is on an official visit to Slovakia.
The two presidents said that Bulgaria can use the Slovak example of the adoption of the euro, and Slovakia can use the Bulgarian example for the development of tourism. However, a common theme for the two countries was the fight against corruption.
For us, European integration means adopting European models and standards in the fight against corruption and crime. Both countries are very interested in the establishment of such standards, Bulgaria’s President said.
What connects us is the fight against corruption. Both Slovakia and Bulgaria are in the European Union and in NATO, and we call on the two governments to carry out their tasks in these alliances, Andrej Kiska said.
In Bratislava, President Radev also had talks with Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, and later met with the Bulgarian community in the Slovak capital.
