In the past month, there has been a trend towards improved train service performance, which is reflected in the reduction of train delays, Bulgarian railways company BDZ said on October 17.
Since the beginning of October, train service performance has improved by nearly 10% compared to the same period in September. This is mainly due to the reduced shortage of locomotives from nearly 21 units on average per day to 8 units on average per day following improved efficiency in the execution of repair work and strict adherence to the approved repair schedule.
Thanks to the increase in the number of locomotives in service after the repairs carried out in September and October, the trains were running on-time by more than 90% on certain days, even approaching 95% on some days. Such figures in schedule performance have not been reported since June, the railways company added.
By striving to minimise locomotive shortage and overcoming the occurrence of delays due to infrastructure reasons, the train running schedule can sustainably maintain performance figures of over 90% in the months ahead.
