A joint company will unite Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) - freight, passenger services and the holding, said Transport Minister Nikolay Sabev on February 4.
He presented the new management of the merged railway company to journalists.
The goal of the merging is to have greater integration and improve the service, Sabev said. He promised that BDZ would be rehabilitated by 2023.
There are no plans to increase the speed of trains, but we will work to improve service and keep trains moving according to time-table.
The other goal is for the railway company to have a larger market share and for the railway transport itself to become more attractive to the members of the public and businesses.
Therefore, the Ministry of Transport plans for the joint railway company to enter the capital market in 2024.
