The state is considering a controlling stake in the CEZ deal if the seller and the buyer agree, it transpired after a meeting in the Council of Ministers on 1st of March with Ginka Varbakova, the owner of the company Inercom, which buys the assets of CEZ. She said she is ready to transfer the agreement for the purchase of CEZ-Bulgaria to the state.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov and Deputy Prime Minister in charge of energy sector Tomislav Donchev. Finance Minister Goranov assured that the state has the necessary resources to buy CEZ assets in Bulgaria. He said that in order to do this however, the vendor has to agree and this is the task for Varbakova, who is going to Prague to meet with CEZ Group.

An outpouring of the tangled case with the purchase of CEZ - Ginka Varbakova is about to give up the acquisition of the biggest EDC in Bulgaria, which supplies more than 3 million consumers. For the decision, only one conversation with the Prime Minister was needed in the presence of Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov and the Deputy Energy Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev.

We have talked about Prime minister’s desire for full control over the deal and the company we will acquire. If that will reassure end-users, yes, I tend to have the state involved in the deal. I’m ready to transfer the contract I have, as long as the seller agrees to that. I'm leaving for the Czech Republic so I can talk with the seller and discuss the options.

Finance Minister Goranov said that the talks on government participation in the deal are at a very early stage. We have clearly stated that we want to participate in this deal in one way or another. If the sellers, Czech energy group agree, the state has the option in one form or another, either through budget funds or through private acquisition, in the sense that it will enter into such a deal through one of the energy companies.

Late last night, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov discussed the sale of CEZ with with his Czech counterpart Andrej Babiš, the government press office said. The Prime Minister asked Babiš for assistance in conducting talks with the management of CEZ Group in case the Bulgarian state decides to buy the business of the electricity distribution company in Bulgaria. The Czech Prime Minister replied that the agreements have already been signed.

The CEZ buyer Ginka Varbakova, as well as all regulators and controlling bodies that can decide on the deal, such as State Agency for National Security, Comission for Protection of Competition, Financial Supervision Commission, Energy and Water Regulatory Commision, will be heard this afternoon at a joint meeting of the energy committee and the committee for monitoring of the special services.

The leader of opposition socialist party, Kornelia Ninova, met with the Czech Ambassador in Bulgaria on the topic of CEZ sale. She has sent him a letter with a list of questions to the Czech government about the sale of the company. Dusan Strauss refused to comment. According to him, CEZ have worked well in Bulgaria.
