Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) steps up public security for the summer tourist season. Officers from the specialized unit for combatting terrorism and a police dog were deployed at Sofia airport on 2nd of June. The authorities introduced checkup points at the external zones of Sofia, Varna and Bourgas airports.
Gendarmerie and police randomly check cars for any suspicious packages or documents.
“This is a way to ensure public security. All vehicles entering the area of the airport should be checked for any suspicious packages, because such packages is possible to be attached to the vehicles without the owner or user of the car knowing about them. This a routine security check, which is carried out everywhere in the EU,” the MoI Chief Secretary Georgi Kostov said.
730 police officers will be seconded to the Black Sea to take care of holiday makers. Specialized police operations will be carried out, Bulgaria’s Minister of interior Rumyana Bachvarova said.
