On 8th of March, Bulgaria’s Parliament elected Plamen Georgiev as Chairperson of the Commission for Counteracting Corruption and Forfeiture of Illegally Acquired Property. Georgiev was nominated by the ruling coalition partners GERB and the United Patriots. Plamen Georgiev Dimitrov was elected by 148 votes in favour. His main opponent Nikolai Nikolov, proposed by the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), failed to collect the required number of votes.
Speaking to journalists after the vote, Plamen Dimitrov declared that the fight against corruption should not have political shades.
Previoulsy, Georgiev was the head of the commission for the forefeiture of the illegally acquired property.
