Late this evening, February 25, Bulgaria’s Parliament passed 2022 Budget Act.

Bulgaria will be able to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine to deal with the consequences of the hostilities, the Parliament decided when discussing the draft State Budget at the second reading. The proposal was made by the ruling coalition, surprisingly submitted by the chairman of the budget committee Lyubomir Karimanski and against the rules, as it was not included in the draft state budget between the first and second reading.

He explained to the MPs that it enables the budget organisations to use surpluses to form a resource that the government can use to meet humanitarian needs both in Ukraine and in the country.

Parliamentary forces supported the motion by a full majority.

The chairman of the budget committee explained that the motion enables the government to raise financial resources from budget surpluses of government departments to cover humanitarian needs resulting from the war.
