Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev convened the Consultative Council for National Security (CCNS) on February 15. The crisis with Ukraine, as well as the risks for the country's security, the state of the Armed Forces and the measures to be taken are the main topics of the meeting.

Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, Defence Minister Stefan Yanev, Minister of Interior Boyko Rashkov, Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska, NA Speaker Nikola Minchev, SANS Chairman Plamen Tonchev, as well as the chairs of the parliamentary groups in the National Assembly are attending the CCNS.

After the end of the meeting measures are expected in 3 directions.

The first is the military aspect of ensuring the country's national security, namely the concept that Bulgaria presented last October to NATO for the construction of the so-called Battle Group based on a mechanised battalion.

The concept will be discussed tomorrow at the NATO defence ministers' meeting in Brussels.

The second aspect is the strategic action plan in the event of a hot conflict in Ukraine. It was discussed last week at the Prime Minister's Security Council and includes measures to ensure Bulgaria's energy security.

The third is the humanitarian aspect. Vice President, Iliana Iotova, reminded yesterday that Bulgaria has a large community in Ukraine and the country should be ready to meet the needs of this community if necessary.
