Caretaker Deputy PM Pekanov presented Bulgaria’s Recovery and Resilience Plan to the EC

Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister in charge for the management of European Funds in the caretaker cabinet, Atanas Pekanov, on October 15 presented the country’s Recovery and Resilience Plan to the European Commission.

Upon presenting it, Pekanov reiterated that the funds in it should make a smoother green transition and drive the economy after the crisis "despite the legacy and the unprecedented political situation."

The plan has already been adopted in the EC and from now on its role will not be to advise, but to make an assessment on it, which can take up to two months. The Council of the EU’s approval will be within a month.

Pekanov said the reforms outlined in the document had been discussed with the political parties of the 46th National Assembly and had not heard any obstructions to the changes, including the mechanisms envisaged to increase the accountability of the chief prosecutor.

The EC representative in Bulgaria, Tsvetan Kyulanov, explained that the Commission is starting a detailed review of the plan.

"Until now, the role of the EC was to advise and help the authorities to prepare a Plan that is as good and useful as possible for the Bulgarian public. From now on, the role of the Commission will be to assess the plan's compliance with the regulations," Tsvetan Kyulanov explained.
