Bulgaria’s Caretaker Prime Minister, Galab Donev, on April 28 received at the Council of Ministers the newly appointed US Ambassador to Bulgaria, Kenneth Merten. Donev congratulated Merten on his appointment in Sofia and wished him a fruitful term.
The caretaker Prime Minister underlined the excellent bilateral relations and expressed confidence that Bulgaria and the United States will continue to work to further intensify the traditionally good dialogue and the development of cooperation in mutual interest.

Donev recalled that this year marks the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Donev expressed his appreciation for the US support for the modernisation of the Bulgarian Armed Forces and the acquisition of new capabilities, as well as for achieving energy diversification of the country and the region.
He confirmed that Bulgaria's inclusion in the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) remains a top priority for the country.
He also noted that Bulgaria relies on the support of the US in the process of joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
