Chief Prosecutor backs doctors’ demand for tougher measures against Covid-19

"I do not want to be right, but the measures taken in the Roma ghettos are delayed," said Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev on March 20 in connection with the demand for more radical measures in the fight against COVID-19.

Earlier today, the Bulgarian Medical Association issued a declaration calling for the introduction of curfew across the country and full quarantine for the elderly. Geshev commented that now is the time when we have to listen to the medial specialists without thinking about politicking.

"Now is the time to see if we have statesmen or people involved in political talk. What I've been watching and happening for 5 days in the National Assembly with regard to the state of Emergency Act is sad. Small political games continue to take place with the idea of drawing political dividends," he said.

According to the Chief Prosecutor, local authorities do better than the state in making emergency decisions.

Ivan Geshev, Chief Prosecutor: In recent days, doctors from all over the country have been calling me. Most of them, not to say all, are for more radical measures. This is not our invention. We must learn from the negative experiences of China, Italy, the countries that are before us. At the moment we think we will be by-passed It can't just jump over us, it just happens to everyone across Europe and all over the world. I said it and would say it again, "If you want peace, prepare for war." So I fully support and urge politicians to listen to doctors and experts.
