A group of citizens gathered in front of the Constitutional Court on 27th of July to declare themselves once again against the Istanbul Convention.
They stressed that the document does not comply with the Bulgarian Constitution because it introduces definitions that do not exist in it. They pointed out that in Bulgaria’s basic law, gender is defined only as biological. They also opposed the teaching of different concepts of gender in school because, in their words, at this age not all students are mentally ready to accept them.
There was also a protest against the Istanbul Convention in front of the District Court in the coastal city of Varna. According to the protesters, the document obliges states to recognize same-sex marriages, which will lead to a change in moral values in society.
