Clash in Parliament: Dispute Between “MRF– New Beginning” and WCC–DB Continues

Fresh tensions erupted in Parliament on December 4 between Ivaylo Mirchev of 'We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria' (WCC-DB) and Delyan Peevski, the leader of Movement for Firghts and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning. The leader of “MRF – New Beginning” claimed that his party had governed together with WCC–DB for nine months and presented draft laws bearing his signature alongside those of the co-chair of “Yes, Bulgaria” and GERB leader Boyko Borissov. Ivaylo Mirchev responded that Peevski had asked him to co-sign the proposals, saying they concerned assistance for Ukraine and that Peevski’s aim had been to have his name removed from the US “Magnitsky” sanctions list.

Delyan Peevski, floor leader of “MRF– New Beginning”:
“Ivaylo Mirchev, Borissov, Peevski, Hristo Ivanov and others. There are many more draft bills in the registry. That is the truth — they cannot escape their past. I will catch up with all of them. They were all part of us. The coalition was a single whole. They will not fool the people. They all used to barge into Borissov’s office and mine. People must know the truth. These individuals cannot represent them. They are liars. They were with MRF for nearly nine months.”

Ivaylo Mirchev, WCC–DB:
“Peevski wanted to get off the Magnitsky list, which is why he insisted on signing every one of our proposals. We have always fought against Russian propaganda; we have always been on the same page when it comes to supporting Ukraine. The one who twists and turns depending on what suits him — whether he wants to get on or off the Magnitsky list, whether he is an ‘Euro-Atlanticist’ or not — this quantum man, this lunatic, is Delyan Peevski.”
