Coordination headquarters against African swine fever will be set up

The Minister of Agriculture Rumen Porozhanov is in Silistra on 24^th of July and then will visit Dobrich to establish a coordination headquarters against African swine fever, which is reported to have outbreaks in Romania.

The measures, taken at the border with our northern neighbour to protect the pigs in the large complexes, as well as in the private farms, are specified. The border area is under preparation for placing barbed wire to stop the passage of wild animals.

The idea of an electricity wire fence was rejected, because of the risk of incidents with humans, and because of its ineffectiveness against wild boars.

Rumen Porozhanov, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry: At the moment we are considering to build a four-row wire fence - just with barbed wire ... 1 linear meter of barbed wire costs 15 stotinki (appr. 7.5 EUR Cents), 4 rows - 60 stotinki per linear meter - the distance between the posts will be two and a half meters.
