Coronavirus in Bulgaria: a total of 593 confirmed cases, 24 deaths

Twelve new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Bulgaria during the day, thus bringing the total to 593, the national task force reported in the daily update on April 8. Seven of the latest cases are in Sofia, 3 in Kyustendil and 2 in Smolyan.

233 patients diagnosed with Covid-19 are in hospitals, 27 of them are in intensive care.

In terms of the overall picture, 322 of the cases are men and 261 are women. The average age of the people who tested positive for the virus is 48.

A total of 32 healthcare specialists have been infected with the coronavirus.

The cases in the districts affected by the coronavirus across the country are as follows: Blagoevgrad – 18; Bourgas – 25; Varna - 24; Veliko Turnovo – 4; Vidin – 2; Vratsa – 2; Gabrovo – 2; Dobrich – 11; Kardzhali – 10; Kyustendil – 10; Lovech – 2; Montana – 18; Pazardzhik – 11; Pernik – 8; Pleven – 9; Plovdiv – 32; Rousse - 3; Silistra - 2; Sliven – 9; Smolyan – 16; Sofia - 351; Stara Zagora – 14; Haskovo – 6; Shumen – 4.

The patients who had been diagnosed with Covid-19 and died are 24.

A 65 year old man died today in the city of Shumen. He was hospitalised on March 26. He was admitted to the internal diseases ward and was initially diagnosed with pneumonia. Then a PCR test was done and the man tested positive for coronavirus. Additional examinations and imaging diagnostics showed he had lung cancer. Two more PCR tests were done in the recent days which were negative for coronavirus. The condition of the patient however deteriorated and he passed away, the hospital said.

The Ministry of Health expressed condolences to the family and relatives of the man.
