The total coronavirus cases in Bulgaria is 1611. The new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours are 23, the national task force reported on May 3.
321 are in hospitals, 40 of which are in intensive care.
Second doctor passed away with coronavirus. D-r Neli Pandova Ilieva worked in the medical emergency unit in Sofia. She was among the first 14 medical professionals from there who tested positive for the virus, weeks ago.
She underwent treatment in the district hospital in Sofia and after two negative test results was discharged and continued the treatment at home
Yesterday, May 2, her condition seriously deteriorated and she sought help in Aleksandrovska hospital in Sofia. As soon as she was admitted in the emergency centre in the hospital it became necessary to be intubatedand despite the efforts of the doctors, she died before she was admitted to the intensive care ward.
The doctors applied resuscitation for 45 minutes but with no success. What is worrying in her cases is that she had two negative test results after the treatment, then discharged from hospital. It is possible that she got re-infected with the virus.
This puts under question the immunity to the virus after recovery.
Currently, the total number of medics infected with the virus is 176.
