The total of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bulgaria reached 846, the national task force said on April 17.

244 of the patients diagnosed with Covid-19 are in hospitals, 34 of them are in intensive care.

Out of the total, 458 are men and 388 of the cases are women.

The cases in the districts affected by the coronavirus across the country are as follows: Blagoevgrad – 20; Bourgas – 2-87; Varna - 25; Veliko Turnovo – 10; Vidin – 18; Vratsa – 2; Gabrovo – 4; Dobrich – 13; Kardzhali – 13; Kyustendil – 21; Lovech – 2; Montana – 18; Pazardzhik – 16; Pernik – 8; Pleven – 10; Plovdiv – 37; Rousse - 7; Silistra - 2; Sliven – 16; Smolyan – 29; Sofia – 497; Stara Zagora – 31; Haskovo – 13; Shumen – 4; Yambol – 2.

41 Covid-19 patients have died. Today, a 74 year old woman died in hospital in Veliko Turnovo. She had some underlying diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension and heart failure.

Three other people died earlier: a 64 year old man in Pirogov hospital, a 68 year old woman in Sliven and a 62 year old in Pirogov, all diagnosed with Covid-19 and having underlying health conditions.

Speaking at the daily briefing this morning, the head of the task force, Prof. Mutafchiyski, said that 12 more medical specialist ttested positive for the virus.

There are two patients, in which tests show that the virus continues to stay in the body for 34 days now, which is worrying, Prof. Mutafchiyski said.

Many of the patients do not have any significant symptoms but continue to be carriers of the infection, including the youngest patient who is 12 months old.

People working in shops will be included in the at-risk group,because they are in contact with many people therefore all the staff of the shops are required to use protective face masks and gloves during work. All customs are also required to wear masks and gloves.

Prof. Mutafchiyski said that they are anxiously monitoring the situation in Asia, where there are 605 new cases in Japan after a lull in the infection rate and 12 people died. In Singapore, the new cases are 728. The death rate in the world is 95,000, he summarized.
