The State Agency for Metrology and Technical Surveillance (SAMTS) monitors the levels of dams in the country, which are increasing due to snowmelting. Extraordinary inspections have been assigned. Controlled water release is applied at some dams. It is the responsibility of owners and concessionaires of the facilities to monitor the dams’ water levels, reminded Ivan Sirav from SAMTS.
He said that there is no dam in Sofia and Pernik region is a state of disrepair. 8 dams are overflowing, but they are not in a critical condition. Dams are a dynamic system and water levels fluctuate. The most dangerous areas in such a state of the dams, when there is an increased inflow, are the areas after overflow and relief facilities, as the main outflow of the dam concentrates there.
