Danube River Level Critically Rising

The municipalities at the beginning of the Bulgarian section of the Danube river introduced flood protection measures.

At Lom, the level is monitored 24 hours a day at five points.

At Vidin, the level is 760 centimeters, and the trend is to rise.

Measures for high water protection have been discussed at a meeting of the Regional Headquarters for Disaster Protection and are already being implemented in four municipalities in Vidin region. The rivel level is measured three times a day. The condition of the dikes is also monitored.

The pumping stations are working 24 hours to ensure drainage of areas flooded by groundwater if necessary.

Zdravko Mladenov, Manager of "Irrigation Systems" in Vidin says that the Danube dikes are continuously monitored because of the sharp increase of the Danube water level. Currently they are in a good condition. An increase is expected In the coming days. We will monitor the levels and respond accordingly, he added.
