Pumping of the water from the stranded “Vera Su” ship began on October 19. The unloading operation is expected to start today.
This morning, there were divers aboard, doing an inspection. Тhe hydraulics needed for the ship’s drainage are being prepared on the harbour in Varna, while the barges on which the nitrogen fertilizer will be loaded, are going to be inflated later.
The unloading operation has not begun yet. A longboat went through the terrain and broadened the space, while a few boats helped a special crew get on board and do an inspection.
The three barges that were provided by the European Maritime Safety Agency have not been inflated and have not departed for Kamen Bryag yet. The operation was expected to begin around 15:00.
The Appellate Court in Varna has left the captain and the assistant captain in custody. Both of them appealed the detention measures. The motive behind the magistrates’ decision is that the detainees could abscond.
The lawyers of both the captain and his assistant presented a rental contract for a residence, rented by the ship owner, motivating their request for “house arrest”, but their demand was not accepted.
