Eleven new cases of coronavirus were confirmed on March 16 in Bulgaria thus bringing the total cases to 62, the head of the national task force said at the daily 5 pm coronavirus update briefing.
Out of 95 tests done in the military Medical Academy in Sofia, 4 tested positive. The national reference laboratory processed 145 samples and 6 tested positive.
Earlier today, a 9 year old boy from the UK tested positive. The child was on a skiing holiday in Bansko ski resort. He arrived in Bulgaria with two adults and two more children.The head of the task force, prof. Mutafchiyski explained that the boy’s uncle who is also in Bulgaria has been previously in contact with his sister, who had tested positive for coronavirus. He added that samples have been taken from everyone in the group, but only the 9 year old tested positive.
Currently, there are 10 patients in the Military Medical Academy in Sofia, 2 in Pirogov emergency hospital in Sofia, 2 in Aleksandrovska hospital, 2 in a hospital in the city of Gabrovo and 4 in the city of Pleven. The rest are self-isolating in their homes.
Over a four day period, tests were conducted in the laboratory of the military hospital on Bulgaria's Prime Minister and the members of the coronavirus task force. All tested negative.
