European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker convenes an informal meeting on Sunday, 24th of June, in Brussels, which will bring together leaders from 8 EU countries, including Bulgaria.
The purpose of the meeting is to find a pan-European solution for changes to the migration policy before the forthcoming summit of all EU leaders at the end of next week.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her Austrian counterpart, Sebastian Kurz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Ministers of Greece, Italy, Spain, Malta and Bulgaria will take part in the meeting on Sunday.
The need of immediate changes to migration policy has been on the European agenda in recent weeks after the new Italian populist government refused to allow the Acquarius rescue ship with 629 migrants on board to dock in Italy.
The migration issue also put the German Chancellor Angela Merkel under strong domestic pressure. Interior Minister Seehofer from the Christian Social Union gave Merkel two weeks to find a solution to the issue of migration, otherwise Germany will begin to deport migrants and asylum seekers from the borders of the country.
