The European Court of Auditors announced that it is starting to check the construction of roads financed by EU funds in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Spain.
The purpose of the check is to establish how the funds have been used and whether better road connectivity is ensured. Between 2007 and 2020, the EU has provided € 82 billion for roads, with the largest beneficiaries being the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
The results of the inspection will be announced early next year.
