Finance Minister: Joining the Eurozone will be within the terms agreed with ECB

We will be 100% ready to apply for the Eurozone waiting room in a few weeks. The last bank not yet covered by the ECB's requirements is ready at 70%, Bulgaria’s Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov told the BNT "Business. BG" evening programme on April 22.

Vladislav Goranov, Minister of Finance: It will be within the deadlines agreed with the European Central Bank so that the process can be completed successfully. In the next few weeks, we can quickly catch up on the lost time.

This is a process on which we have worked for almost 2 years, Goranov said. There are dozens of steps that have been taken so far. There are hundreds of talks between the Bulgarian authorities, the European Commission, the European Central Bank. The Eurozone is an obligation, it is a civilization choice to participate in the European Union.

The big question here, according to Goranov, is whether there are rational arguments for postponement or not. Especially in times of crisis, it has emerged that large economies that work together are much more prepared to respond to the crisis than small economies, especially countries that do not have their own monetary policy, the Finance Minister explained.

According to Vladislav Goranov, there was some hesitation as to whether the society was united on this topic, but in the end important decisions were made with sufficient political will.

Vladislav Goranov, Minister of Finance: One group believes that the euro will not continue to exist and that the EU is likely to collapse. Something I don't believe in. The other group of people simply do not want such political success to be realized by our society. And maybe a third group of people who like Bulgaria to stand between its geopolitical choice, the Euro-Atlanticism or some other direction that I do not know where it is on the map.
