Five people were arrested over alleged corruption in the Regional health insurance Fund in Bulgaria’s second largest city of Plovdiv, including officials of the health insurance fund, the Prosecutor’s office confirmed for BNT on 9th of May.
Economic Police is also working on the case. The operation took place in several places in the city of Plovdiv. Two people were detained in the centre. A large amount of money was found in a car parked next to them.
For hours, the investigators counted the money and made an inventory of the banknotes. According to unconfirmed information, it was a bribe amounting to nearly BGN 50,000, and a Head of a medical department of the Health fund is among the detained, as well as an employee from the pharmacy department.
The Regional Health Insurance Fund in Plovdiv declined to comment while the investigation continues. The prosecution said they would give more details about the operation tomorrow, 10th of May.
