Five men with previous criminal records were detained after a police chase in the region of Ihtiman (West Bulgaria) after an ATM in Sofia was blast open in the morning on 2nd of March.
There is an ongoing on-site inspection as well as police actions to clarify the circumstances of the committed crime.
The alert for the blasted ATM was reported to the police this morning at 5:15. The machine was installed on the facade of a florist shop on Rozhen Boulevard in Ilientsi district in Sofia. On-site teams of the Metropolitan Police were immediately sent. After a chase in the streets of Sofia, the suspected robbers went in direction of Ihtiman. The five suspects have already been known to the police and have previous criminal records. They are suspected to have been involved in car thefts in the past.
According to witnesses, there were many scattered banknotes at the scene of the blast.
